George Shelby - Sax

 

George Shelby has performed on Saxophones, Flutes, Clarinets, and WX across the world with various artists including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Barry Manilow, Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Frankie Avalon, Brian Culbertson, Michael McDonald, Boz Scaggs, Lionel Richie, Bobby Caldwell, Jim Brickman, Miguel Mateos, Sheena Easton, David Foster, Melissa Manchester, The Rippingtons, Larry Carlton, Marc Antoine, Grant Geissman, Ann Jillian, and Brian Setzer. Recording credits include recordings with Hilary Duff (Metamorphosis – 3x Platinum, Greatest Hits – Platinum), Bette Midler (Peggy Lee Tribute), Lucy Pearl, Barry Manilow (Songs of the Fifties – Gold), Garden Party (No Static At All), The Brian Setzer Orchestra (Guitar Slinger – 2x Platinum, West Side Story – Gold, and the Dirty Boogie), guitarist Mike Sims (Wake Me at Sunset, Room With a Groove), drummer Russ Miller (Cymbalism, Arrival), vocalist Lisa Cannon (More Than 12 Stories Under The Sun). As well as his own CD’s, “Oasis Of You,” and “Touch.”

 

On DVD he appears on the Michael McDonald concert, “A Gathering of Friends,” with Barry Manilow “First and Farewell”, and “Live from Las Vegas”, and the Bobby Caldwell DVD, “Live at Araneta Coliseum.” His documentary on Yamaha sax making, filmed in Hammamatsu, Japan, has been viewed around the world. He has performed on American Idol, the Late Show with David Letterman, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Bonny Hunt Show, Robots, Kung Fu Panda, Glee, Everybody Loves Raymond, The Mask, (both movie and cartoon), The Souler Opposites, Fatal Instinct, and Tomorrow’s Dream. In addition to his recordings and concerts, George has five music education videos for Star Licks/Hal Leonard Publishing, and two feature articles with the Yamaha WindPack Series. George was born and raised in Los Angeles. He studied music at California State University, Northridge, and studied privately with Ernie Watts, Bill Greene, Claude Lakey and Charlie Shoemake.
